Día De Los Muertos
Project Reflection
In this project, we learned about El Día De Los Muertos (The Day of the Dead), how it originated in Mexican culture. At the beginning of the project, we learned a little bit about Spanish imperialism in Mexico; how the two cultures joined together, to form the culture now. Once we had some background knowledge of the culture, we started learning about the different kinds of things people do during El Día De Los Muertos; including calaveras, sugar skulls, papel picado, and altars. We created two written calaveras, one about a type of person, and the other about a famous person, we also created one visual calavera which matched one of the written ones. Additionally to the calaveras, we made ofrenda, which are obituaries for loved ones, or pets that have died. At the end of the project we displayed our work at an exhibition.
During my process of refinement, I first made sure there were no errors in my writing, and that my art was neat, once I did that, I had my teacher look at it to make sure it was good. I did this multiple times to make sure it the best work it could be.
My understanding of Mexican culture has grown because I didn’t know where this holliday had originated, and I also have a better understanding of how cultures have combined in many places around the world. My understanding has grown, because I havn’t learned about Mexican culture before, and I was very interested to learn about it.
