Geometry POL Prep - Semester 1 Reflection
Geometry Skills
Describe one topic you feel you have mastered this semester. Describe the activities that helped you learn this activity. How do you know you have mastered this skill?
I don’t feel like I have mastered anything yet this year; I feel like I am close to mastering logic, but I havn’t yet. In my opinion, in order to master something, I need to be able to perfectly describe what the subject is, and use the skill in many different situations, and I don’t feel like I can do that with any math subject yet. I do feel like I am on the way to mastering subjects in this class, especially logic. I can do a lot of it very well, but there are still some aspects of it that I don’t completely understand yet, but I will understand it soon. In this piece of homework, there are aspects that I do understand, but there are parts of it that I did wrong in every example with that aspect of the skill. This shows that I still have more to learn, but I am definitely on the road to mastering logic.

Evidence:
How have the Explorations (and group discussions of Explorations) changed your experience as a math student this year? In what ways have they made math class more challenging, and in what ways have the Explorations and discussions helped you learn?
The explorations have changed my experience as a math student this year by helping me further understand the material we are learning. I feel like the discussions are especially helpful because if I don’t understand a part of the exploration, then discussing it will help me understand it if I didn’t before. Discussions are the most helpful in my learning in math class because there are multiple people explaining the problems, so I get more than one kind of explanation. If I don’t understand one person’s explanation of a problem, then I can get a different explanation from someone else, and it will help me understand the problem better.

Describe a moment when you had a breakthrough in understanding a challenging concept. What nurtured your breakthrough? How did this empower you in moving forward? What did you learn from that experience?
The moment when I had a breakthrough in understanding a challenging concept was when we were going over the 2-2 logic homework in class. I got most of the homework wrong, but I now understand the material, and if I was given the homework again, I would be able to do it perfectly. This empowered me to move forward because it showed me that even if I don’t understand the subject at the moment, that I will if I keep working at it.

Problem Solving Skills
Which Habit of a Mathematician do you feel you have the most mastery over? Explain what this skill is and what it means to you. Explain how you have demonstrated this skill, the activities that helped you develop this skill, and how you have grown in that problem-solving skill this semester.
The Habit of a Mathematician that I feel like I have the most mastery over is generating ideas, I have demonstrated this skill mostly in my POWs by looking at all the aspects of the problem, and then choosing what to do based on what I have figured out so far. My POWs have helped develop this skill because in order to figure out the problem I have to look at all the aspects of the problem in order to correctly answer it.

Evidence:
For which Habit(s) do you feel you have the most room to stretch? What do you think held you back from improving in this skill this semester?
The Habit I need to improve the most on is recognizing and resolving errors, this is because when I finish a piece of homework, or a problem, I don’t check over it once I’m done. The main thing that held me back from improving this semester was that I didn’t want to do more work than I had to. If I had taken the time to actually look at my work once I was done it would have greatly improved my grade in math class, and it would have helped me understand the material better.
